The 2015 BUILD conference is buzzing with talk about Microsoft's new lightweight editor dubbed "Visual Studio Code" (VSCode).
As Scott Hanselman reports, Microsoft took a page from GitHub's open source Atom editor, which uses a cross-platform UI toolkit called Electron (also from GitHub).
Certainly it's a little shocking, in a good way, to see Microsoft working on a project like this. Hopefully they will open source it. But more importantly, it emphasizes again how GitHub has "won". Microsoft is playing catch-up again.
And as my recent blog post about Ghost also pointed out, Node.js is almost the new OS of the web, and increasingly, the desktop.
